Message from Bob Karls, Water Quality Chair:

In the recent fall edition of The Cedar Log, which everyone should have received, I discussed my attendance at the 2016 Aquatic Invasive Species conference held in St. Cloud. I mentioned I had seen pictures of what Starry Stonewort, one of the newer invasive species hitting Minnesota, had done to Lake Koronis. MN Lakes and Rivers Advocates uploaded onto YouTube one of the videos shown at this conference.

Please take a moment and watch this educational, informative video. It’s short but will help you see what aquatic invasive species can do to a lake and why we must maintain our vigilance and protect Cedar along with all the other lakes in our state.

Scenes of the lake level from the recent rainstorm can be found under Photos.  Rain amounts vary but range from 8” – 10+”.  As reported by Jim Spaeth of Sunset Bay Resort, the Mississippi is at 6’ over flood stage and expected to crest on Wednesday.  The lake will continue to rise.  Stay safe on the water – watch for floating debris.

The float down the mighty Mississippi is scheduled for Saturday, July 23.  See the Social Tab for details on this event along with events in August.  With the recent rise of the Mississippi, stayed tuned on the chance this is rescheduled.
