Board of Directors Meeting

Pope County Courthouse – Community Room

September 10, 2008 Minutes


Attendance: Members: Ballou (by proxy) Brown, Gunderson, Larson, Maurstad, Mulvaney, Nyhusmoen (by proxy- Roy Gustafson), Stager. Others: Ryan Kessler, Dean Paulson.


1. Call to Order at 8:10 a.m. by the President.


2. Minutes July 8, 2008: Not available


3. Treasurer’s Report: Total income $4,439.97 Total expenses $6,297.22, Checking balance $674.36, Savings balance $4,800.77, Total funds $5,475.13, Funds encumbered $250.00. Funds available $5,225.13.

Motion to accept treasurer’s report: Maurstad/Stager, carried.


4. Committee reports:

A. Monitoring – Bruce Brown gave an update on sampling to date and that several lakes didn’t take samples on 9-02-08 due to bad weather, therefore there were six late samples on 9-03-08.


5. Old Business:

A. County Fair – “TOONIES” Enviroshow, three well received showings

B. Web site: Bruce Mulvaney reported on updating the web site on Minnesota Waters.


6. New Business:

A. Water Fest, September 12: Sixth grade students from 8 schools in Pope and Stevens Counties will attend at Barsness park from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Walt Larson & Bruce Brown will be at one of the 10 stations to present our Water Monitoring Program.

B. Curlyleaf Pond Weed Endorsement letter. – Motion to approve: Maurstad/Mulvaney, carried.

C. Ryan Kessler reported on the 2008 stocking program and lakes that were sampled for mercury for details contact him.

D. Dean Paulson indicted this most likely would be his last meeting as County Commissioner. Several members expressed their appreciation for his attendance and support of our program.

E. A Motion by Stager/Gunderson to set meeting time at 9:10 a.m. was passed.


7. Announcements:

A. 2009 Annual meeting to be hosted by Gilchrist lake.


8. Adjournment: On motion by Stager/Larson the meeting adjourned at 9:30 a.m.
