Unfortunately, the summer of 2015 has seen the disbanding of Pope County COLA.  Useful lake monitoring data my still be found on this site on the Home Page.

Our Genesis

July 1, 1991 – Mike Howe organizes the first Pope County Water Conference.

July 6, 1992 – Tim James outlines the benefits of County COLA’s at the second Pope County Water Conference.

Summer, 1992 – LAP studies in progress for Gilchrist and Linka Lakes.

August 17, 1992 – Tim James returns to discuss merits of COLA’s. A straw ballot indicates 17 person desire to proceed with the establishment of a Pope County COLA and 7 lake associations wish to join.

October 5, 1992 – Mike Howe serves as interim chairman and interested lake associations share their problems and concerns.

January 4, 1993 – A uniform, county-wide water monitoring program is proposed.

April 5, 1993 – Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws are adopted, a Board of Directors is appointed and initial membership fees are established.

May 3, 1993 – First official meeting of the new Board of Directors and identification of issues for COLA consideration.

June 7, 1993 – Election of first officers of COLA.

June 28, Articles of Incorporation filled with Secretary of State, #5259.

July 2, 1993 – Water Conference III & first COLA Annual Meeting.

August 9, 1993 – Adopted Mission Statement.

August 16, 1993 – Newsletter initiated, Vol 1, Number 1.

October 4, 1993 – Established TSI water monitoring program.

January 7, 1994 – IRS 509 (a) (2) & Title 501 (c) (3) established.

May, 1994 – Second newsletter, Vol 2, Number 1.

July 1, 1994 – Water Conference IV & Second Annual COLA meeting.

Summer, 1994 – First COLA TSI monitoring program with Dr. Holt.

Fall, 1994 – Fall MLA Conference in Alexandria with COLA Posterboard.

May, 1995 – Newsletter Vol 3, Number 1.

July 15, 1995 – Water Conference V.

1995 Activities – Secchi Disc, TSI water monitoring, Newsletter, Lake Conference, Position Paper and feed lots.

August 1, 1995 – Third Annual COLA meeting.

July 8, 1996 – Water Conference VI.

August 13, 1996 – Fourth Annual COLA meeting.
