Below is the latest March 2020 information from Crow Wing County about aquatic decontamination stations for the coming summer.
1. The permanent station in the city of Crosslake will continue decontaminations.
Located at the Joint Maintenance Highway Facility in Crosslake, Memorial weekend through end of September, open Thursday through Monday, 9:00am to 5:00pm and closed from Tuesday and Wednesday with no on-call available. The decontamination station will be fully staffed by DNR trained Level II inspectors to remove AIS
2. An AIS decontamination hot-line will be available for the general public to call, 24 hours a day.
3. A texting service will be offered for additional information on AIS decontamination for the general public. The number and texting service will assist with providing customers the locations of the closest open decontamination stations.
4. There will be a new mobile decontamination unit which will travel to appropriate accesses within the county.
New in 2020, Crow Wing County plans to purchase a mobile decontamination unit to be located at various landings throughout the County. Starting Memorial weekend through end of September, open Friday through Sunday, 9:00am to 5:00pm and closed from Monday through Thursday. The mobile decontamination unit will be fully staffed by DNR trained Level II inspectors to remove AIS. Advantages of purchasing a mobile decontamination include providing more decontamination locations to the public, additional protection to lakes in the County, and to control the spread of AIS.
DNR mobile AIS decontamination stations for 2020
In past years local accesses have also benefitted from a DNR mobile decontamination unit. We presume it will continue in 2020. They also put up a website that enables the public to find decontamination units on any particular day, We will post that when they confirm it as the boating season starts.
