Zebra mussels were discovered in Ruth Lake in the fall of 2015.
The MN DNR investigated and found that they seemed to be limited to a fairly small area.
Until recently it was assumed that if zebra mussels were found there was no practical treatment to eliminate them.
Then last year in Christmas Lake (Hennepin County) several treatments were tried to eliminate zebra mussels–a bacterial product Zequanox, copper sulfate, and potash (potassium chloride).
Unfortunately in October 2015 zebra mussels were again discovered in Christmas Lake. The DNR said that it was not going to make any further attempts to eliminate the zebra mussels in Christmas lake.
