As winter approaches, WAPOA Board members gather in mid-November for their usual annual planning meeting.
It is held at Camp Knutson in their large meeting room which overlooks Whitefish lake.
The meeting takes all day, allowing enough time for careful consideration of the nearly finished year.
The Board goes over each major activity looking to see what worked and also to talk about improvements that could be made.
It involves more than just the Board, former Board members are there. Also invited for in-depth discussions are local experts. This year Heather Baird from the MN DNR and Darren Mayers from the Crow Wing County Soil and Water Conservation District were asked to provide their particular expertise.
Plans are made for the upcoming year, duties assigned, and a preliminary budget is considered.
Adjustments will continue to be made during the winter.
