GOVERNOR CHALLENGES ENBRIDGE PIPELINE DECISION 02-12-2019

The complicated Enbridge pipeline issue continues with opposition from environmental groups and some Native American interests.

The Minnesota Public Utility Commission voted to reaffirm its previous decision allowing Enbridge to build Pipeline 3.

It still needs permits from the MPCA, the MN DNR, and the US Army Corps of Engineers. Also long standing opponents are expected to challenge appeal of certificate of need soon in court.

Previously, from the Minneapolis Star Tribune, “There are ample arguments against the pipeline: it threatens Minnesota’s cleanest waters and wild rice areas, it harms treaty rights, it’s not needed, and it would add hundreds of billions of dollars in climate change costs worldwide.”

On February 12, 2019 Governor Walz reaffirmed the Dayton administration decision to challenge the PUC finding to allow the pipeline.
